Symposium of Stone Sculpture 2006

The non-profit organization Trans & Arts is holding the Stone Sculpture Symposium from July 29 to August 6, 2006. The symposium will take place in la Tannerie de Pézenas, in South of France (Hérault, Languedoc-Roussilon).
This sculpting event is an artist residency. The objective is to promote stone sculpture performance as an art form and to bring together artists with different backgrounds to demonstrate their process of stone sculpture creation in front of the public. This event will meet the highest tourist time for this area.
1 - Location: In Pézenas town, 300 m from the historical centre. An external space of 1000 m2 opened with the public, is available for the piece creation. The building will be dedicated for the sculpture exhibition of the artist participants within the symposium time. (No commission required by the organizer, full incomes from sales to the artists).
2 - Dates of the working period and exhibition: The symposium start from July 29 to end August 6 2006.
Saturday 29 July, on morning: reception of sculptors, installation by the artists of their small size works in the exhibition space, on afternoon: start of working period. The symposium will happen, whatever the weather.
3 – Number of participants: maximum 12 sculptors.
4 – Theme for creation: “Messages of the body”.
5 - Stone: 12 identical blocks provided (about half m3), free of charges (stone type to be confirmed), by the organizer of the symposium.
6 – Tools: each participant will receive the first day a tool package (to be confirmed) free of charges to work his stone. However, personnel tools are recommended, no electric tools, pneumatic tools are under investigation.
7 – Selection process: complete appliance file to be sent before February 28. The steering committee will review in March proposals defined as follows:

8 – Symposium program :

9 - 12 am Installation of the exhibition space for small size works brought by the artists

12 – 1 pm Official launch of the symposium in the presence of guests partners (to be confirmed), sponsors, members and press representatives

12- 1 pm Aperitif and meal at la Tannerie: official show of the works carried out in the presence of the artists, sponsors, institutional, members and the press. setting on sale of the sculptures (if necessary)

9 - Communication: the communication plan is fully under the organizer responsibility and will involve the sponsors of the symposium.
The artists authorize the organizer to use the image of their works for the promotion of the artist, of the symposium and of la Tannerie. The right to record, film or photograph at commercial purposes during the symposium remains held with the organizer.
10 – Accommodations: Lodging free of charges (for sculptors only), the meals and the drinks (only of sculptors) partially taken charges by Trans & Arts from Saturday July 29 to Sunday August 6, 2006. The organizer deals with neither housing nor the food of accompanying possible.
11 – Transport charges: the selected artists not residing in France are invited to contact the organizer to be given potential aids allocated with the international.
12- Insurance: the Steering Committee and the owners of the place do not assure the sculptors (accident, material...), each artist will have to provide his civil liability and all document, ensuring us for his social protection. The artists work on site under their own responsibilities and have to act with safety for their entourage.
13 – Sculptures : in the case of the prepayment of all the sculptures by a sponsor, it will be versed 60% of the sale to the artist. In the contrary case, works will become the property of the artist but could be taken by the sculptor only after one year. During this period, sculpture will remain on sale with la Tannerie. In the event of sale, Trans & Arts will retain 40% of the selling price to cover its expenses of production and organization. If the artist did not take his sculpture within 3 years from symposium end, this one will become the property of Trans & Arts. On the other hand, no commission will be taken on the works of small size, brought by the artists, which could be exposed and sold during the symposium with la Tannerie.
14 – Cheque of guarantee: in the event of selection, the candidates will have to send a cheque of guarantee of 500 euros. This cheque will be returned completely after the participation of the symposium. If the engagement of the artist were followed of non participation, if the sculptor could not carry out his work by absenteeism, or for other reasons, the contract of service would be broken, which would mean the cancellation of the order and cheque of guarantee cashed.
