First, the pre-requested infrastructure, in parallel with the slow and isolated creative act, makes the overall work life cycle heavy and very demanding.
Unfortunately, the time of the pre-paid studio is over. Now, the artist must be autonomous. He has to design himself the right supply chain to realize his projects.
In this environment, internet is a true revolution.
So a new class of artists is emerging. On top of their talent, they are open-mind, managing the end-to-end process: concept, production, finance and marketing, developing their own image and showing their works, worldwide.
These artists are very often nomads. They live the geography with the wire of their meetings, opportunities or their inspirations. Fully in present time, they become interactive artists. The dialogue is naturally established between them and with the public.
Mixing different cultures and handling new skills, they transcend the disciplines: photography, painting, film industry, video, writing, new technologies, new materials, land art, body art... They produce their own dynamics.
Their clearness is far from the stereotype of the nice dreamer.
Struggling with the crucial question of the supply of tools, materials and studio expenses, they do not hesitate to federate their own structures, to invest even to acquire quarries, to build partnerships and organize themselves artistic events and networks.
Therefore today’s artist is also a manager for his work. This is also an award to his or her freedom.
The participants of the International Symposium of Stone Sculpture 2006 at “la Tannerie” will also illustrate this theme...
